Five senior police officers transferred after underground gambling raids

Following a large-scale raid on three gambling dens in Bangkok’s Phra Khanong and Watthana districts, five high-ranking police officers have been abruptly transferred to different precincts within Bangkok.

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, explained that the transfers were temporary and had been undertaken in order to help facilitate a police investigation into the gambling dens, which were presumably under the protection of the errant police officials.

The gamblers themselves weren’t so lucky. Police rounded up 300 gamers in all, and seized millions of baht in cash.

The Nation reports that the names of the underground casinos were Mae Ho off of Sukhumvit 71, Uan in Bang Na and an unnamed den in Soi Pho Kaew.
