Thailand’s Fine Arts Department will be looking into the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s plans to paint old buildings and historic sites in the Rattanakosin area, the department’s acting director general Sahawat Nanna said yesterday.
The types of paints and methods used must be examined to make sure the buildings will not be damaged, Sahawat said.
The BMA has announced a campaign with paint firms to renovate and paint such old city landmarks as the Mahakan Fort and the Phan Fah Leelas Bridge, the Nation reported.
Permission must be obtained from the Fine Arts Department before starting any work, Sahawat said, but his agency has yet to receive a request.
