FDA clamps down on overusing cooking oil

In an announcement at least a decade overdue, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has promised to fine food vendors who excessively reuse cooking oil.

Henceforth, vendors who use cooking oil to the point at which it contains upwards of 25% polar compounds will face the threat of a THB10,000 fine.

Polar compounds, if consumed in excess, can cause high blood pressure, cancer and strokes.

The National News Bureau of Thailand reports that the FDA will soon dispatch mobile testing units to ensure that street vendors are adhering the regulation.
