Fake cop busted, suspected of trying to steal flood supplies

A man accused of impersonating a Bangkok highway police captain working with flood victims was arrested by real police in late October.

The man, Smith Supo, was arrested at the flood victim shelter at Rajamangala Stadium for posing as police,TANN reported. Officers from the Hua Mak police station said they though he was planning to rob someone.

Police confiscated several police uniforms, radio telecommunication devices, a truck with a siren, volunteer and medical ID cards, and documents from flood relief foundations from the National Police office from the man.

Smith said that he only wanted to help the flood victims, that he desperately wanted to be a policeman, and that he wasn’t planning on robbing anyone.

Police Lieutenant Coloner Rangsan Yingyongdumrongsakul, deputy director of Hua Mak Police Station, said that earlier a group of people had impersonated police officers and stole relief supplies at the stadium.

Smith was charged with impersonating a police officer and having a radio telecommunications device without permission.
