Ex-con busted for carjacking taxi

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try  again. The motto applies to the story of a 26-year-old ex-convict who was arrested for stealing a taxi cab in Photisarn market at Tambon Na Kleu, Amphur Banglamung in Pattaya on Tuesday. Taxi cab theft was what got him into jail the first time.

Pattaya police arrested Mr. Thongchai or Vee Kucharoen of Amphur Muang, Chumphon province, and recovered the stolen vehicle, a green-yellow Toyota Corona with license number MOR CHOR-1702 Bangkok. The 52-year-old cab driver, Mr. Peera Seneesorot positively identified the suspect to the police officials.

According to the driver, he met the suspect on September 10 in front of the Bangyai market, Amphur Bangyai, Nonthaburi province. He said Mr. Thongchai offered to pay him THB2,200 for a roundtrip fare to Pattaya prison. Afterwards, the suspect reportedly asked the cab driver to take him to the Photisarn market in Tambon Na Kleu, Amphur Banglamung. There, Mr. Thongchai asked Mr Peera to deliver some documents to a vendor while he stayed inside the taxi cab. As soon as the driver left, Mr. Thongcai sped off with taxi cab. He was however, apprehended by Minburi police officers.

Mr Thongchai told the police that he was planning to work as a cabdriver in Bangkok using the stolen taxicab. This was the same offense that got him arrested, prosecuted, and sent to jail for in the past. Reports said the suspect was charged with stealing property. He will most likely be going back to jail for the crime.
