The photo above from Facebook fan page น้ำขึ้น ให้รีบบอก – loosely translated as “When the water level is high, let’s post” – shows evacuations underway from Navanakorn Industrial estate at 2pm today Oct. 17. The FB page, which started only in October, already has over 150,000 followers and has become a go-to source of information amidst all the confusion from government messaging.
Speaking of which, Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said today that Bangkok still is not safe from flooding and that he is especially worried about the northern suburbs. This comes after Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Theera Wongsamut said that the worst runoff had passed through Bangkok and that the threat was basically over. Sukhumbhand told Bangkokians to remain vigilant and said that the BMA was adding a half meter to 7 kilometers of dykes protecting Bangkok, MCOT reported.
