Elephant calf found dead in Salakpra Wildlife Sanctuary

Yesterday, villagers found a deceased, one-and-a-half year old elephant in Salakpra Wildlife Sanctuary.

After finding the elephant, the villagers called park rangers and veterinarians to the scene, none of whom were able to identify and immediate cause of death.

The carcass showed no signs of bruising or other violence, leading officials to suspect that the elephant died naturally, rather than by the hands of poachers.

The Bangkok Post reports that veterinarians removed the animal’s organs in an attempt to find its cause of death, after which its body was burnt.
