Election Commission to approve election result by tomorrow

Election Commissioner Prapan Naigowit said today that he and his gubernatorial election committee would meet this afternoon to discuss the election results before the central Election Commission made them official tomorrow.

Prapan said that the commission received 14 complaints in total, 10 of which were yet to be considered. He added that there was no concrete evidence of vote buying, contrary to the claims put forth by many voters.

Regarding the lower-than-expected voter turnout, Prapan insisted that it was due to the rain. Yet, a 63.98% rate broke the gubernatorial election record, exceeding the 62.5% turnout rate in 2004. Also, Sukhumbhand’s 1,256,349 votes mean that he has received more votes than any other governor of Bangkok. His closest rival for this distinction is Samak Sundaravej, who received 1,016,096 votes in 2000.

According to Dailynews, the voided ballot rate is 1.37% and the under-vote rate is 1.75%.
