Education Ministry suspects widespread cheating on teachers’ exams

The Education Ministry has come to suspect that a great many of its teaching recruits cheated on an entrance exam meant to test their aptitude.

Yesterday, Deputy Education Minister Sermsak Pongpanich went so far as to call on the Department of Special Investigations (DSI), to look into the allegations.

The alleged cheating was supposed to have occurred during a Jan. 13 test, administered as part of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec)’s efforts to recruit 2,000 more teachers throughout the country.

According to the Bangkok Post, Sersak is alleging that cheating took place in the form of proxy test-takers, the sale of answer sheets and the use of communications devices to obtain answers.

The Education Ministry has pointed out that this case closely resembles a similar incident in which organized efforts were made to help recruits cheat on the police recruitment examination.
