The Echelon Ignite Thailand tech conference will kick off next Thursday at Bangkok University with an impressive list of speakers.
Some of the topics to be presented include, Patai Padungtin’s “How a Thai Startup Went Regional”, Jakob Lykkegaard’s “How 2 Non Geeks Built and Sold a Web Startup”, a regional panel tackling the topic, “What Do Investors Look Out for in Startups?” as well as Michael Smith Jr’s, “5 Key Things To Note When Building Your Product.”
The event follows hot on the trail of Bangkok Startup Weekend and verifies the Thai capital’s growing importance as a tech hub in Southeast Asia.

Singapore tech blog e27, which is organizing the event, had this to say about why they chose Thailand:
Thailand is South East Asia’s fourth largest market with 70 million citizens of which 30% are connected to the Internet. There is also huge youth potential in Thailand with majority of Internet users aged 15 – 19 years old. The average amount of time spent by Thais on the Internet is 16.6 hours, that’s 60% more than the time spent watching television and three times the time spent listening to the radio.
Mobile is also a huge potential for startups. The Thai’s have seen a 300% growth in the Thai tablet market and 41% indicating that they would like to purchase a tablet in 2012 over 29% who indicated a desktop and 21% who indicated a smartphone.
This data suggests a growing potential for Thai and regional startups as more Thais access the Internet through mobile devices. Because of this, Echelon Ignite is perfectly positioned to help bring startups to the next level, and to engage with the rest of Asia.
