Bangkok’s Dusit Zoo will evacuate animals to Khap Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi in the event of flooding, zoo director Dr. Karnchai Saenwongse said today Nov. 4 according to the Nation.
The zoo on Rama V Road houses 1,200 animals of 250 different species on 118 rai. Sandbags have already been set up around animals cages and 2 weeks of food has been saved
Karnchai said the first group of animals to be evacuated would be those that would have trouble in 50cm of water, like deer and their close cousin barking deer. If water levels reached one meter, tigers would have to be evacuated but birds, monkeys, and of course crocodiles would be fine.
Zoo officials are currently working around the clock to prepare for floods.
