According to the Nation, the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) is launching a probe into a since-aborted project to construct 396 police stations throughout Thailand.
Many of these buildings were abandoned halfway through construction as workers walked off from job sites, complaining of unpaid wages.
Police are now implying that the THB5.84 billion project may have been the victim of premeditated fraud perpetrated by the winning bidders – PCC Development and Construction Co.
The DSI has implied that PCC intentionally submitted an unrealistically low bid for the project, assuming that it would pocket the 15% advance on construction with no intention of actually completing the solicited buildings.
PCC has stated that it will explain its actions at a press conference later this week.
