DSI investigations point to fraud in police station contracts

Initial inquiries by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) have revealed that fraud may have been to blame for the botched construction of 396 police stations throughout Thailand.

After investigating the situation, the DSI reported earlier this week that PCC Development and Construction Co., the project’s sole contractor, had dispersed payments to its subcontractors that did not match up with the projects’ total budgets. These subcontractors, in turn, were forced to underpay their workers, who then left the jobsites and beset Thailand with a sizable collection of half-built police stations.

According to the Bangkok Post, the DSI suspects that many of PCC’s would-be disbursements wound up in the company’s coffers.

The DSI is also running a concurrent investigation into bidding price collusion on the THB5.8 billion project. The results of this second investigation will be released next month.
