Don Mueang district in Bangkok should be totally dry within three to five days, the local district office said today Dec. 12 according to the Bangkok Post.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra presided over a “big cleaning day” that thousands attended yesterday in the district.
Free repair services for repair of flood-damaged motorcycles and appliances were offered at the event and the Government Savings Bank set up a booth at the event to disburse compensation of THB5,000 to each flood-affected family. Only 4,713 out of 36,456 total flooded families have been compensated so far, the Bangkok Post reported, and some have criticized the bank for moving too slow.
84 communities and 65 housing estates were flooded in Don Mueang, one of the hardest hit districts in the capital. Don Mueang district office director Phumpat Damrongkiart said that a few housing estates are still inundated but pumps are being used to expel the water.
Coconuts Bangkok documented floodwaters hitting the area on Oct. 27 with photos and video.
