In an effort to prevent flooding in Bangkok, Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Surasawdi has proposed the construction of a massive (and massively expensive) dam.
The dam, whose several-billion-baht budget would be added to the THB470 billion the city already spends on flood prevention, would be placed across either the mouth of the Chao Phraya River, or between the Mae Klong and the Bang Pakong River.
Similar dams are already under construction in Europe. Plodprasop told the Nation that city planners have been considering the construction of such a dam in Bangkok for more than a year.
