According to a statement released this weekend by Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut, the Democrats will be boycotting a round talks, scheduled to begin this Monday, on the subject of granting amnesty to a variety of people implicated in the 2009 and 2010 protests.
In his statement, Chavanond said that while the Dems remained amenable to granting amnesty to those accused of violating decrees issued during the unrest, the party still would not agree to grant amnesty to those accused of insulting the high institution during that same period.
The Pheu Thai Party, which organized the amnesty talks, has been accused of employing them as a front for granting fugitive ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra a means for re-entering Thailand.
The Bangkok Post reports that the Pheu Thai Party submitted an amnesty bill for those being held on political charges to the House last week.
