The Democrat Party offered a warm welcome to Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, who was picked on Sunday as the Pheu Thai Party’s candidate for Bangkok’s governorship.
At 10:45AM today, Ong-art Klampaiboon, the re-election campaign manager for incumbent Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, said that he was aware of the ruling party’s decision to field Pongsapat. However, he insisted that the governor’s race was not a war between parties but an individual competition.
Sukhumbhand is expected to file an application to the elections committee on Jan. 21. He secured the Democrat Party’s nomination on Dec. 27.
Sukhumbhand has scheduled a rally in the Yaowarat area this afternoon in an effort to gather support for the March 3 battle. Thairath reported that he would attempt to convince Yaowarat residents to trust his policies, which include plans to change the local Chinatown into a regional metropolis.
