Late last week, Interpol announced the arrest of Annéthe Zettergen, 58, at an unspecified location in Thailand.
Zettergen, a former Councilwoman from the Swedish county of Värmland, had been on the run since last August, when allegations surfaced that she had pilfered millions of kronor from government coffers.
By overstating the number of patients who came by her local clinic, Zettergen was able to overbill her superiors and make away with an illicit 4.5 million kronor (roughly USD700,000).
The Local reports that authorities plan to extradite Zettergen to Sweden where she will face charges of aggravated fraud.
