Police are on the lookout for flood profiteering boat operators who have allegedly hidden spikes on submerged roads to sabotage rescue vehicles and prevent them from taking their business.
Complaints have come in to the Flood Operation Relief Center of spikes causing flat tires on Ratchapruek and Kalpapruek roads, the Bangkok Post reported. People said that boat operators from the central provinces were often seen near the areas where rescue trucks got flat tires. The Metropolitan Police Bureau has received similar complaints of spikes causing flat tires on Vacharapol Road and Wongsakorn Market in Sai Mai district, the Don Muang section of Phahon Yothin Road and the Bang Phlat area of Charan Sanitwong Road. There were also reports earlier during the flooding of spikes in the roads of the nine central provinces.
Police are no looking for evidence of the spikes. Putting the spikes on the road carries a maximum sentence of three years in jail and violators will be charged with the added offense of “hindering officials giving aid to flood-affected people.”
