Two retailers from popular shopping mall/fire hazard MBK have been arrested for peddling fake Furbys.
Yesterday, police seized 20 of the fake dolls from two stores – one named “December,” the other named “Home Mobile.”
Acting on a tip from swindled consumers, officers from the Consumer Protection Police Division and Thai Industrial Standards Institute raided the two shops, where they found that fake dolls were on offer for as much as THB5,500.
In addition to offering the pertinent facts pertaining to the case, the Bangkok Post, in its write-up of the incident, also offers this hilarious attempt to describe Furby as, “a popular furry toy resembling a squat hamster with owl-like eyes that can sing and dance and interact with its owners. They even have their own language.”
Fair enough, but we’d like to add to this précis that they are also creepy and terrible.
