The “Hia Teu Mangkorn Thong” network controls 14 franchise dens, he said at Minburi’s Lion Building in Soi Lalaisap; Khubon’s 8th kilometre marker; Khubon Soi 1; Romklao Housing Estate; near Beung Kum District Office; Soi Paholyothin 52; Payak Housing Estate in Ramkhamhaeng; Soi Lat Phrao 112; Lady Zone Pub in Chokchai 4 Soi 71; Khlong Toei; a place called Phoenix at Navankhon; Bang Phli; Wat Phrayakrai police station’s jurisdiction; and a market opposite Major Cineplex Nonthaburi.
The franchise dens pay police up to THB1 million a day for protection, he said, and were backed by two police generals with the initials “Jor” and “Or”.
Chuwit also said that eight other major dens are under operation and paying up to THB2 million per day for police protection.
Bangkok Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lt General Winai Thongsong said yesterday that police would investigate the dens and the allegation that police generals were involved.
Photos of topless female dealers at an illegal casino in Bangkok’s Sai Mai district circulated on the internet recently causing an outcry. The topless hostess were called into Sai Mai Police station and paid a fine for committing an obscene act, while the alleged owners of the casino are being charged with gambling related offenses.
