Students at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University have complained to police about repeated smartphone robberies that have taken place while they wait for the bus on Phaya Thai Road.
According to the students, motorcycle-bound thieves have repeatedly menaced those waiting at the stop. Typically, a motorcycle rider whose identity is concealed by a helmet will swoop down on a group of students, then threaten physical violence if smartphones are not surrendered.
The Nation reports that officers at Pathumwan Police Station are checking CCTV footage and increasing the frequency of their patrols in an effort to catch the thieves.
