At 11AM today, Chiang Mai police arrested a 34-year-old man who had intended to rob a gold and jewelry store for the sole purpose of placing himself behind bars.
Arthit Sa-nguan did not resist when police handcuffed him and took him to the San Sai police station following an attempted robbery in which he used a dummy gun to make off with a small amount of jewels.
“I have too many problems. That is why I want to go to jail,” said the Chiang Mai local, who chose to rob the Yaowarat store because of its adjacency to a police checkpoint.
Arthit confessed to the crime and willingly handed over two stolen golden necklaces, worth THB13,000, to police. According to Dailynews he got his wish and was placed behind bars.
