Floodwaters from the North are expected to hit Bangkok on Monday and will continue to rise until Thursday, when they will reach their highest point.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority has expressed confidence that it can deal with the floodwaters that have reportedly led to 98 deaths so far in provinces up the Chao Phraya River, as long as there is no more massive downpours.
Sanya Chrianimit, director of the Department of Drainage and Sewerage at the BMA, told the Bangkok Postthat the department has 158 pump stations at the ready to pump floodwaters into the Gulf of Thailand through 200 water gates. The BMA also has a stockpile of four million sandbags ready to enforce the banks of the Chao Phraya and canals throughout the city.
Flooding has wreaked havoc in Angthong, Petchabun, Nakhon Sawan, and Phichit provinces, amongst others
We’ll be keeping an eye on this over the next week.
