Chaeng Watthana locals demand drainage

Local residents on Chaeng Watthana Road in Bangkok have given government officials an ultimatum: drain water from our homes in three days or face “swift protest measures.”

The neighborhood has been flooded for a month and waters remain around two meters high.

Somdech Jaengprasit, who is representing seven housing estates on Chaeng Watthana Soi 14, said the dirty water was breeding mosquitos and making it difficult to move.

“We’ve suffered in silence for long enough. We can’t bear it any more,” Somdech told the Bangkok Post. The residents have reportedly planned to rally today Nov. 28 to demand that Flood Relief Operation Center (FROC) chief Pracha Promnok or one his his deputies meet them in person.

A crowd of Pathum Thani residentsblocked the Don Mueang Tollway on Nov. 23 also calling for quicker drainage. Nonthaburi residents blocked a road in front of the provincial hall to demand the opening of sluice gates on Nov. 20
