Pathum Thani burglar dies after 5th floor leap

A foiled burglary attempt led to the death of a 16-year-old boy after he jumped from the 5th floor of a residential building in Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang district early Thursday morning.

Pol Lt Wichian Muansuwan of the Khong Luang police station said the incident was reported by Kanong Kamnoi, 52, the fifth floor security guard of building no15 at the Baan Ua-arthorn low-cost housing complex.

In his statement, Mr. Kanong said he saw the boy leaving one of the rooms in the fifth floor. This prompted him to shine a flashlight on him, which startled the burglar. Panicked, the boy immediately jumped from the veranda and landed on the ground, seriously injured.

The security guard said he rushed to the boy and left him only to get help, but the boy was already dead by the time he got back. Shortly before his death, the boy reportedly told Mr. Kanong that he jumped for fear of being arrested. He added that he had two accomplices, but his friends were nowhere to be found.

Police said a search of the crime scene yielded a sack filled with stainless faucets, electric wires, and a bag containing burglary tools which the boy and his companions may have used during the break-in, the Bangkok Post reported.
