According to Transport Minister Chadchat Sittipunt, a Tuesday cabinet meeting has resulted in the approval of two out of three construction contracts for building on sections of the Red Line electric railway.
The first contract, for construction of the Bang Sue terminal and maintenance facility, was awarded to SU Joint Venture for THB29 billion. The second contract, covering the building of railway track and train stations, was won by Italian-Thai Development Plc for THB21.2 billion.
Collectively, the two contracts form part of a 36km section of Red Line electric rail linking up Bang Sue in Bangkok with Rangsit in the Pathum Thani province. According to State Railway of Thailand Governor Prapat Chongsanguan, the contracts are expected to be finished in about three years time. The third contract, addressing the train operation system and rolling stock procurement, has not yet been finalized.
The Bangkok Post also reported the Cabinet signed off on four additional contracts, all won by Bangkok Metro Plc, for construction on the Purple Line electric railway from Bang Sue to Bang Yai.
