A Bangkok taxi driver who allegedly hit and killed a British woman and seriously injured her friend has turned himself into police hours after fleeing the scene of the accident and has since been released on THB100,000 bail.
Rungreuthai Phosri, 31, surrendered to Thung Mahamek police at around 6:30am yesterday morning, two and a half hours after hitting the women on Soi Sathorn 3, The Nation reported.
The 29-year-old woman was killed instantly and her 26-year-old Scottish friend suffered a broken hip.
Rungreuthai said he was driving at around 80kmh in the rain when the women “suddenly crossed in front of him” and he couldn’t brake in time. He added that he stopped about 50 meters from the scene and his passenger got out to take another cab.
Rungreuthai has been charged with reckless driving leading to another’s death and fleeing the scene of an accident.
