BMTA offers free temple tours during New Years

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has assigned 40 buses to conduct daily temple tours between Dec. 29 and Jan. 1 as a New Years gift to Bangkok residents.

This free offer was designed for religious Buddhists who hope to start 2013 with good luck. The temple tours will be provided from 8AM to 6PM and will kick off at Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal.

The service will carry passengers around Rattanakosin Island, or “Old Bangkok,” and pass 11 famous temples including Wat Benjamabopit Dusitwanaram, Wat Samphraya, Wat Bowoniwet Vihara, Wat Chana Songkhram, Wat Mahathat Yuwarajarangsarit, Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Suthat Thepwararam, Wat Saket, Wat Anongkaram and Wat Prayurawongsawat.

On New Year’s Eve, the service time will be prolonged to facilitate people joining cross year prayer at Sanam Luang, the City Hall and temples across the capital.

This announcement joins Coconuts Bangkok’s earlier reporting on the city’s New Year’s traffic policies to form what will be a fantastic holiday, from a transportation standpoint at least.
