BMA aims to reduce road death toll with safety campaign

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration today launched a road safety campaign, raising awareness on dangerous driving and traffic law enforcement.

Deputy Bangkok governor, Teerachon Manomaipibul, today presided over a City Hall-initiated campaign to reduce the number of fatalities on the capital’s roads and highways. He said during a press conference that the BMA is devising additional measures to tackle the rising number of road accidents. The City Hall aims to reduce the death toll this year by 100.

As part of the BMA’s road safety drive, ten campaign events are scheduled to be held and pro-safety messages will be advertised through print media, television , and website www.bangkokride.com.

32,461 accident cases were reported in Bangkok in 2011, resulting in 399 fatalities and 350 million baht’s worth of property damage. On average, 1 accident-related death and 41 injuries occurred on a daily basis. The most accident-prone areas in Bangkok include New Petchaburi road, Sukhumvit road, Lao prao road, and Rama II road.
