An early-morning explosion rocked Bang Chak Petroleum Plc. on Sukhumvit soi 64, waking locals and sending smoke across the city.
One larger explosion followed by at least one lesser blast could be heard from the facility on Bangkok’s south side. According to the Thai-language @Rawangpai disaster alert Twitter account, the fire, which saw flames shooting some six-stories high, is partly under control with initial reports of one injured.
Reports on Twitter from local media have said that some buildings and homes in the area may have been damaged. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has said there is no need to evacuate the area, however nearby schools will be closed for the day, the Bangkok Post reports.
