Police in Saraburi made the biggest marijuana seizure in Thailand’s history last week: 3.45 tons estimated to be worth THB51 million.
The ganja was found April 27 in a house in packed boxes with an address in the UK as their destination, The Nation reported. Nipon “Yap” Mopad, 43, was arrested and confessed that he had been paid THB100,000 to deliver the drugs to Bangkok Port where it would be sent abroad.
“He has done it a few times before. He said the illicit drug came from the Northeast,” said Saraburi police chief Maj-General Chalit Preechaharn.
Nipon’s truck and a firearm were also seized and his bank accounts were frozen.
