Barack Obama may visit Thailand in November if he wins re-election

The US Embassy in Bangkok has begun preparations to welcome US President Barack Obama to Thailand if he wins the presidential election next month.

Officials from the US Embassy, Thailand’s Special Branch Police, and Foreign Ministry inspected Government House in Bangkok yesterday, the Nation reported.

The visit is planned from Nov. 18-19 – but will depend on Obama getting re-elected on Nov. 6.

Obama was supposed to visit Thailand in July as part of his appearance at the ASEAN leader’s summit in Cambodia, but cancelled after the Thai government blocked a NASA research project at Chonburi’s U-Tapao International Airport.

A source at the US Embassy told the Nation that they would not give out information on the visit until they receive confirmation from the White House after the election. The source did say though, that officials have met to discuss the possibility of Obama visiting Bangkok.
