Bangkok’s Dusit Zoo is the proud new owner of a kinkajou

A member of the endangered and rare kinkajou species has found a home at the Dusit Zoo in Bangkok.

Kinka-what?

The kinkajou, a South American raccoon-like animal which is hunted for its skin and soft golden brown fur, was donated by the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo in northeastern Thailand, Malaysian news agency Bernama reported. There are now three kinkajous in the country.

The animal is also known as the Sugar Bear or Honey Bear (not the Honey Badger).

The animal which can grow up to 60 centimeters in length, has a tail the same length as its body and is strong enough to support its own weight while hanging from a tree. It is also nocturnal and has special odor glands in its body used to mark territory. It eats fruits, vegetables and nectar.
