Bangkokians’ holiday spending jumps 12% year-on-year

Holiday spending by Bangkok residents has shown a sharp, year-on-year increase according to a poll conducted by Kasikorn Research Center.

The poll, which surveyed 544 Bangkok consumers about their shopping behavior between Dec. 1 and 10, showed that Bangkokians are spending more money this holiday season, both proportionally and in terms of actually amount.

This year, Bangkok residents will spend approximately THB21.3 billion on holiday gifts and activities, a 12% increase over last year.

The Nation reports that of this THB21.3 billion booty, the lion’s share will go to food and beverage purchases, which will account for 28.2% of Thai holiday spending. Gifts and traveling expenses also formed a large portion of that sum, as did “merit-making,” which accounted for 13.1% of the holiday spending spree.
