Piles of trash and fetid, smelly water are an ongoing problem in Bangkok’s flooded areas.
Less than half the usual amount of trash is being collected in Sai Mai, Thawee Watthana, Nong Khaem, Don Mueang, and Bang Khae districts, the Nation reported.
Garbage trucks have been unable to circulate in those flooded areas and piles of trash have further polluted dirty water.
Micro-organism balls and liquid have been used to treat the dirt water and the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority has recruited 915 volunteers to help remove trash.
“We’re trying to collect as much garbage as possible and we’re trying to do it as fast as possible,” BMA spokesman Wasan Meewong said.
The trash problems is getting worse as people return to their homes in flooded areas and through out junk.
Flooding is improving around Bangkok, but the BMA’s shelters still hold 15,204 people.
