The State Railway of Thailand SRT) is halting six train routes to help shore up annual losses.
The roundtrip services being canceled are: Special Express (air-conditioned) 11/10 Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Bangkok; Express 115/116 Bangkok-Phitsanulok-Bangkok; and Express 143-144 Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani-Bangkok, the Bangkok Post reported.
SRT deputy governor Viroj Triampongpan, who is acting governor, said that they would begin cutting the services on Nov. 1, which would save approximately THB136 million per year in costs.
The route cuts will also allow for funds to be used to improve locomotives and carriages on other routes, he said.
