Bangkok police prepped for March 3 election

More than 18,000 uniformed police officers will hit the streets of Bangkok for the period around the upcoming March 3 gubernatorial election.

Pol Maj-Gen Adul Narongsak, the metropolitan police spokesman, announced on Monday that the substantial police force would be necessary to maintain law and order in the hotly contested election. According to reporting from the Bangkok Post, the Metropolitan Police Bureau will establish an election peace keeping centre, allowing them to share intelligence, encourage voting and monitor possible instances of electoral fraud.

Mr Adul also discussed plans to launch a major crime suppression drive in the weeks immediately preceding the poll. Police are to be dispatched throughout the city where they will supervise political rallies, ensure that political signs are not destroyed and possibly take legal action against mischief makers.
