Bangkok police defuse bomb in the nick of time

A bomb was found and defused by police in front of the Government Lottery Office on Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue in Bangkok yesterday Dec. 7.

The homemade time bomb was found in a black bag on a traffic island and defused less than two hours before it was set to explode, the Bangkok Post reported. Police used water jets to deactivate the bomb, which was composed of explosive material stuffed in a steel pipe with a clock and batteries attached.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said that he expected police to find the culprit within three days, as they are currently questioning eyewitnesses and examining CCTV footage.

Chalerm said that he believed the culprits were “veteran political activists who may not be members of any political party but supported a certain political group”, whatever that means.

The bomb was set to go off at 4:45PM yesterday, but police defused it at 3:00PM.
