Bangkok’s notorious Bang Kwang Central Prison aka The Bangkok Hilton was searched this morning Feb. 3 at 3:30am in a crack down on drug syndicates in the jail.
Drug paraphernalia, mobile phones, SIM cards, and cash were found stashed throughout the prison by over 400 offices from the Departments of Corrections, Provincial Administration, Provincial Police Region 1, and Office of the Narcotics Control Board, MCOT reported.
The officers searched the dormitories, exercise area, and bathing halls in sections 2,6,8, and 10 of the prison. They also found homemade moonshine alcohol in various locations.
The raid was prompted by the arrest of suspected drug dealer Niphon Kanchat, who fingered Peerayuth “Tee” Phaedsakul as a major drug kingpin operating from the Bangkok Hilton.
Peerayuth denied charges but was still thrown in solitary confinement.
Niphon reportedly admitted to owning the 3.8 million ya ba pills and 71kg of crystal meth found by police in a house in Pathum Thani in late January.
Bang Kwang Prison detained around 100 inmates on drug offenses and is trying to link them to drug rings outside the jail.
The Corrections Department is moving those detained to a special zone in Ratchaburi’s Khao Bin Central Prison.
