Bangkok happiness level drops :(

Citizens of Nakhon Phanom, Pichit, Trang, Chaiyaphum, and Krabi provinces are the happiest people in Thailand, according to a just-released National Statistical Office survey.

Meanwhile, those that live in Samut Songkhram, Samut Prakan, Sa Kaeo, Phuket and Nong Khai are the most miserable, the survey found.

And Bangkok? Those living in the Big Mango were found to be 65th out of 76 provinces on the happiness scale down from 59th in 2009.

NSO deputy director Rajana Netsaengtip said the happiness level amongst Bangkok residents dropped because of political protests and hardship, especially amongst rural people who moved to the big city.

The survey was conducted under the Mental Health Department and polled 80,000 people above the age of 15 last year.

It was released in advance of the United Nations’ International Day of Happiness on March 20, the Bangkok Post reported.
