Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra has confirmed his bid for a second term under the Democrat Party ticket.
The governor made the announcement on Sunday during a media seminar at the Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, the Bangkok Post reported.
Although the Gubernatorial elections is still several months away, Sukhumbhand already has his campaign speech ready. If re-elected he said said he would create a halal food center to draw in Muslim tourists to Bangkok. He also promised to complete the hospital for the elderly which is currently being built at the Bang Khun Thian District.
Sukhumbhand’s re-election bid for governor of Bangkok is huge for the Democrat Party because a win might give them an advantage in nationwide elections.
But several prominent individuals are also rumored to be eyeing Mr Sukhumbhand’s current post: former national police chief Sereepisut Taemeeyaves, and Suwat Liptapanlop who is the chair of the Futsal Association and the de facto leader of the Chart Pattana Puea Pandin Party.
