Bangkok governor pledges dry city for New Year

Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra predicted that all of Bangkok will be dry by the end of 2011.

The governor made comments after checking water levels at the Hok Wa Canal in Saimai District yesterday Nov. 20, TANN reported.

Sukhumbhand said that opening three sluice gates between Lamlukka district in Pathum Thani and Saimai district in Bangkok will increase water levels in the How Wa Canal, but won’t flood Bang Chan and Lat Krabang industrial estates.

The governor pledged to drain all the water from Bangkok by December 31, but said that he still hadn’t set a deadline for compensation for flood victims as the crisis was ongoing.
