Bangkok deputy governor Pornthep Techapaiboon tendered his resignation yesterday in a letter to governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra.
Pornthep said he wanted to focus on “business interests”, but sources told the Bangkok Post that he will be taking care of his “unwell” son living in Chiang Mai.
Chief advisor to the governor Wallop Suwandee will likely assume Pornthep’s position, both the Post andThe Nation reported.
Wallop served as a deputy under governor Apirak Kosayodhin, who resigned in 2008 – a month into his second term – after being indicted on charges of corruption.
