Bangkok Airport Link may halt service over security guard wage dispute

Sick of waiting 25 minutes for the airport link? Well soon you might not have to, as service may be suspended over a wage dispute.

Supposedly the State Railway of Thailand Electrical Trains (SRTET) couldn’t muster up the extra THB90 per day to meet Yingluck’s new 300 baht minimum wage per day requirement, leaving the train security attendants with a meager 210 baht per day.

The attendants come from ACM, Asia Security Management, which was hired to provide the security in all the stations, renewed their contract with SRTET on April 1 to continue providing security at the stations, but at the updated rate of 300 baht per day.

This presented a problem for the SRTET, as they were not directed to reflect the 90 baht increase to government organizations, which the security workers technically fall under, even though they come from a private contractor.

A meeting is planned to sort out the mess, according to NTT. In the meantime there’s a possibility that the train service will be temporarily suspended, meaning your wait time will go from 25 minutes to an indefinite number of days!
