Bangkok acid attacker squirted victims with syringe, confessed after two hour interrogation

More details have come to light about the Bangkok acid attacker.

Mr. Rachan Theerakitnukul, who was arrested Sunday on Intamara Soi 39 in Din Daeng, said that he committed the attacks because of his anger at being a garbage collector and the discrimination between the rich and the poor. He confessed after two hours of police interrogation, KhaoSod reported.

Police originally believed the substance used in the attacks was alkaline salt, but a doctor interviewed by Channel 7 said that it was a sodium hydroxy or caustic soda.

Police said that the suspect took the substance, mixed it with water, and put it in a syringe to squirt on people, sometimes mixing in liquid toilet cleaner.

Indeed, Rachan was arrested with a bottle of Duck brand “Floral Pink” toilet cleaner. He squirted nearly 30 victims over the past two months, frequently while high on methampetamines.

Police said they would investigate the source of his ya ba, which he said he bought for THB200 per pill.

Rachan is facing two years in jail and THB2,000 fine.
