Army insists it didn’t fire at ASTV news vehicles

In a statement yesterday, Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha insisted that army soldiers were not responsible for a series of shots fired at ASTV news vehicle early on Saturday morning.

Representatives of ASTV stated today that the shooting caused THB45,000 in damage to four ASTV cars and to the ASTV building itself, which wound up with several broken windows as a result of the attack.

The Nation reports that Pol Colonel Jakrapob Sukontarat, who is running an investigation into the incident, said that his officers are stilling gathering information and were not yet ready to announce a suspect.

Some sources had originally speculated that the shootings were the result of a spat between army chief Prayuth and the newspaper. However, Chief executive officer of ASTV-Manager Group Jittanart Limthongkul has stated that he does not believe soldiers were involved in the incident.
