Vocational school students who are deemed troublemakers or have a history of violence will automatically land themselves a position in the Thai Army as soon as they are of age, Army Chief Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha announced today.
Gen. Prayuth said the policy will be short-term and may be cancelled if it is successful in preventing or reducing violence between rivaling vocational schools, The Nation reported. He did not indicate when the policy would come into effect.
The move comes following a fatal shooting on a commuter bus that instigated a wave of measures to stem violence between vocational schools, mainly along the Vibhavadi-Rangsit corridor in the north part of Bangkok.
