Airport Rail unlinking with State Railway of Thailand

The State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) has decided to set up a new government agency to operate the Airport Rail Link, separating it from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

Deputy Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt said that the SEPO agreed at a meeting to “change the status of the SRT Electrified Train company, an SRT subsidiary which has been operated Airport Rail Link to a new state enterprise under Transport Ministry,” MCOT reported.

If that sounds to you like a bunch of confusing (and probably needless) bureaucracy shuffling that may only facilitate corruption, you could be right.

Chadchart, however, said that the change will increase “flexibility of operations.”

Thailand’s Finance Minisry will own all the shares of the new government entity, and Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong chaired the meeting where the decision was made.
