According to the Nation, Airbnb Thailand is blowing up.
Since it first launched in the Kingdom, Airbnb has seen a sharp increase in the number of requests for rooms in the region, particularly in the tourist hot spots of Bangkok and Phuket.
For those unfamiliar with the service, here’s how it works: You can list your house or apartment on Airbnb, then rent it out to strangers when you’re out of town or looking for a little extra cash. These strangers will promise profusely to leave the room cleaner than they found it, though this is, most of the time, a lie.
While traveling, you can also rent other peoples’ rooms for rates usually below what you would pay for a hotel.
All in all, not too bad of a deal.
And according to Airbnb cofounder Nathan Blecharczyk, Bangkok is one of the best places in the world to be an Airbnb guest or hotelier.
“Thailand is a premier travel destination in the world especially during holiday season,” he said. “The response from travellers is fantastic, and we expect Thailand to be a major growth area for our business in the future.”
This year, the company is expecting that it will facilitate 500 Airbnb reservations across Thailand for New Years Eve.
